your breath is always with you.

your breath is one of the few tools you carry with you everywhere.

breathwork uses intentional changes in the way we breathe to influence how we feel—physically, mentally + emotionally.

at respira, we explore simple, accessible breathing practices designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your body + create moments of regulation in everyday life.

no equipment.

no perfect environment.

just your breath.

what is breathwork?

breathwork is the intentional use of breathing patterns to influence our physiological + emotional state.

some practices are slow + grounding.

some are energizing.

some last several minutes.

others can fit into the middle of an ordinary day.

at respira, breathwork isn’t about breathing perfectly.

it’s about learning to notice your breath + discovering ways you can intentionally work with it.

breathe. notice. adjust.

why respira?

regulate.

explore breathing practices that can help shift your physiological state + support nervous system regulation.

reconnect.

create a moment between what you’re experiencing + how you respond.

return.

come back to something that has been there all along.

your breath.

you don’t have to do it perfectly for it to be useful.

evidence-informed breathwork

the science behind the breath.

breathing happens automatically.

but unlike many automatic processes in the body, we can also intentionally change it.

the way we breathe interacts with our autonomic nervous system + can influence physiological processes including heart rate, heart rate variability and arousal.

research on slow + controlled breathing has found measurable effects on autonomic and cardiovascular function, while a growing body of research suggests certain breathing practices may help with stress, anxiety + emotional regulation.

not every breathing technique works the same way—and breathwork isn’t a cure-all.

that’s exactly why respira takes an evidence-informed approach to the breath.

the practice can be simple.
the physiology behind it isn’t.

editorial portrait of Daniela Caballero Varona, MD

I spent years learning how to care for the body through medicine.

breathwork taught me another way to listen to it.

breathwork has become an important part of my own life—a way to slow down, reconnect with my body + move through moments of stress and overwhelm.

what started as something I practiced for myself became something I wanted to understand more deeply.

first as a physician.

then as a student.

and eventually, as something I wanted to share with others.

I am currently completing my trauma-informed breathwork certification with Jadine of The Breathing Teacher, bringing together my medical background, breathwork training + lived experience.

respira lives at that intersection:

medicine × breath × nervous system × lived experience

because sometimes one of the simplest tools we have is already with us.

our breath.

your body. your breath. your choice.

respira takes a trauma-informed approach to breathwork.

your experience belongs to you.

during a practice, you are always invited to listen to your body, modify the breath, return to your natural breathing pattern or stop completely.

there is nothing to prove.

there is no pushing through.

breathe with me.

before you breathe.

breathwork is not one-size-fits-all.

different breathing techniques create different physiological responses, and some practices may not be appropriate for everyone.

certain medical conditions, pregnancy, medications or individual circumstances may require a practice to be modified or avoided.

before participating in guided breathwork, you’ll be asked to review relevant safety information + share anything that may affect your practice.

when in doubt, we slow down.

your safety comes before the technique.

an important distinction.

respira is a wellness + educational breathwork offering.

although sessions are facilitated by Daniela Caballero Varona, MD, participation in respira does not establish a physician-patient relationship and breathwork sessions are not medical evaluation, diagnosis or treatment.

clinical care is provided separately through vida clínica virtual.
